"I like your sleeves. They're real big." - Napoleon Dynamite
The big sleeves of Vogue 1798 started the wheels turning on this mashup of fabrics, colors, trim, and a modified style. We discovered the cotton unexpectedly at a local quilt shop, and knew right away which trim would fit it. Using all three colors in which the floral was offered adds to the amusement!
We inserted the Oat Petite edging (SKU #L6003) around the neckline, lower bodice, and elastic casing of the sleeves. To have play with the colors, we bound the edges of the neck and hem in the purple contrast, as well as the casing for the arm elastic. A hint of red-orange hides in the back as a tie.
Despite all these successes, imagination doesn't always translate perfectly! This top was originally cut out (and sewn up nearly to completion, mind you) as a dress. After completing the dress except for the hem, we took a good look in the mirror and it was just too much! The skirt was then chopped off to create a top with a peplum-type ruffle. The creative process is always an adventure.
